Dilemmas

Overview

Dilemmas are authored story decision points in Star Wars Zero Company where Hawks is faced with an important choice. Every Operator in Zero Company weighs in with their opinion on how to resolve the situation. How Hawks decides will change Bonds with those Operators — and in some cases may drive a character away from Zero Company entirely.

How Dilemmas Work

At certain points in the campaign, Hawks encounters a Dilemma — a situation requiring a meaningful decision. Each Operator expresses their position based on their own values, history, and relationship with Hawks. The squad is ideologically diverse: a clone trooper, an Umbaran separatist, a Mandalorian, a Jedi Padawan, a noblewoman, and a crook will not always agree.

The outcome of a Dilemma feeds directly into the Bond System:

  • Choosing in line with an Operator’s view strengthens the Bond between Hawks and that character
  • Going against an Operator’s position may weaken or fracture the Bond
  • Some Dilemmas carry authored consequences beyond Bond changes — the narrative lead confirmed there are authored moments where player choices can drive a character away from Zero Company entirely

Relationship to Permadeath

Dilemmas add a second axis of permanent loss alongside Permadeath. Where permadeath risks characters to combat, Dilemmas risk relationships to narrative choices. A character driven away by a poor decision is a different kind of loss — one that comes from who Hawks chooses to be rather than how a mission went.
